About Sally

Welcome! I am Sally Asher, a health scientist, lecturer, Francophile, foodie and a passionate home cook.

For years I tried and failed at many diets and I found myself stuck in a cycle that made me feel like I was fundamentally flawed. It wasn’t until I moved to France to live with a French family that I began to change my relationship with food. I slowly discovered that it was the concept of dieting with its rigid, arbitrary and restrictive rules that made me feel deprived, guilty and ultimately led to overeating.

Over years spent living in France, I quit dieting and began to listen to and trust the delicate mechanism of hunger and satiety and use it as my guide to regulate my appetite and weight. I became the expert of my own body and learned to eat with freedom and joy. Through self-nurturing, rather than self-criticism, I was able to master the art of intuitive self-care. Not just physically, but mentally, spiritually and emotionally. By learning to love myself, I found a level of health and wholeness that I never thought possible.

The French taught me how to enjoy gastronomic pleasures and lose weight at the same time.

My new book Losing It in France – Les Secrets of the French Diet chronicles my transformation. It can help anyone who is frustrated with dieting and just wants to eat what they love and maintain a healthy weight at the same time. It also contains delicious recipes.

Losing It in France is available at major bookstores across Australia or online at Amazon.com Amazon.ca and Amazon.co.uk.

I believe it is possible to enjoy sumptuous foods and remain slim and healthy. The people who can lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle are foodies. When it comes to healthy eating, people who know how to cook and make ingredients taste good have a distinct advantage over those who can’t.

My short-cut gourmet recipes not only honour your health, but also your tastebuds, so give them a try today!
